Business Case

Improving productivity or operational efficiency gains is one of the key driver for any digital transformation effort in the Healthcare and Petcare industry. Any noticeable improvements in these parameters results in direct bottom-line gains, and enabling the professionals to do more of what they are good at – seeing more patients.

The current implementations EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or PMS (Practice Management Software) applications that deal with the day-to-day operations of a medical practice heavily involve the typical graphical user interfaces (GUI), that mandate the users (Medical Professionals) to use the Keyboard and Pointing devices actively. It becomes a cumbersome and time consuming activity every time, when they have to remove their gloves, use the GUI devices and return back to dealing with the patient, more so in the case of veterinarians who treat the pets.

Can we really leverage the power of Language Interface, which lets the users just talk to a device, more so of invoking a personalized smart assistant, for hands-free mode and that gets tasks done?

Solution

Custom wake word is a very powerful Voice AI solution pattern these days, given the maturity of the platform and the improved accuracy levels. We delivered a custom wake word implementation for the customer, with extremely high voice recognition accuracy for reliability. The edge-first architecture of the solution significantly reduces the latency and avoids network delays.

One of the significant apprehension for the customer was the ability to achieve desired accuracy level on the wake word utterance. Training the ML models on an extensive corpus of user utterances, including complex medical vocabulary, combining with retraining workflows for continuous maturity of the ML models, helped us manage the challenges around accuracy. Our solution was built on top of a vendor Language Understanding (LU) solution, that helped us with extremely low error rates. With all the voice data processed on the device and behind the firewall, the application is intrinsically HIPAA and GDPR complaint.
